A note of explanation

As Amiee has already pointed out, this blog is a place to share some ideas, experiments and other attempts to recreate tastes and flavors of childhood. For myself I grew up on Jewish food courtesy of my New Yorker parents. Despite our exiles in New Jersey and the Wisconsin I learned from an early age that mustard is the only acceptable condiment on a sandwich, that lox should be sliced thin and stacked with red onions and capers on a bagel, and that most of the bagels available are really just white bread with a hole in the middle.

My Jewish food sense was considerably expanded by five years of living in Israel, where I discovered a range of middle eastern Jewish foods, foods of the Arab world and the foods of the Jewish communities of India, Ethiopia and Yemen.

In any event this promises to be fun, funny and perhaps even tasty.
